We all want to drive an electric car, heat our house with solar panels and do our laundry on wind energy. Although? The metals we need for this are now being mined from mines in the Global South. But that is not enough and there appears to be an alternative: at the bottom of the deep sea, large quantities of cobalt, nickel and copper are apparently there for the taking. We are in the crucial phase of the energy transition and at the beginning of a geopolitical race to mine those metals. But with a devilish dilemma, because in order to mine these raw materials for our batteries we inevitably cause damage to the bottom of the deep sea. Backlight dives into the battle for the deep sea.
