Bicycle Thief

August, 1993 – Savji is a Dalit from the Saurashtra region of Gujarat. His wife Reva and he have recently shifted to Junagarh from their village. The reason why he shifted to the city was that he was treated as a bonded laborer. He wanted to come out of this oppression at any cost. His wife Reva and he dreamed of settling down, having children, and having a happy life. When Savji approaches a local factory for work, he is told that if he has a Bicycle, he will get work. Savji buys a secondhand bicycle for 250 rupees. Savji is a man of good character, and as his family would always say about him, he has never taken a single penny from anybody. Savji is unaware that the bicycle he bought was stolen.
