ROYALTY is a comedic, heartfelt coming-of-age series about identity, friendship and the pressure of perfection in the social-media age. At the start of seventh grade, Mette realises she has fallen from “queen of the hobby-horse scene” to a total nobody. After joining influencer Bella L’s “That Girl” course, she throws herself into a glow-up project that takes over every part of her life. But the more flawless her online persona becomes, the more chaotic her real life gets. Blending humour, heart, social-media satire and magical fantasy, ROYALTY is a story about staying real in a world that rewards performance and perfection. Fast-paced and emotionally warm, ROYALTY blends punchy comedy, drama and social media satire. Bella L’s presence in Mette’s real world gives the pressures of social media a surreal twist, adding a distinctive layer to the storytelling. While the issues our characters face are highly relatable to our target audience, the story unfolds in a slightly heightened reality — a world you’d want to be part of, where you’d want to be friends with the characters, and where the series offers a sense of escape from everyday.
