SYNOPSIS

Shadowland is a documentary that follows director Otso Tiainen as he travels to Bugarach, a village in the French Pyrenees known for attracting esoteric groups, occultists, and New Age spiritualists. The film centers on cult horror filmmaker Richard Stanley (Hardware, Color Out of Space), who moved to the area and became a central, guru-like figure to a vulnerable community of spiritual seekers. However, the narrative shifts sharply when serious allegations of domestic violence and abuse surface against Stanley. The documentary explores the dark side of spiritual dependency, the mechanics of manipulation, and the devastating fallout when a charismatic leader is exposed.
